Weight Loss and Metabolic Health

In America, one of the biggest battles we all face in the health care arena is the problem of Obesity and Poor Metabolic Health. You might have heard the Term Syndrome X or Metabolic Syndrome, and in general this refers to a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. These conditions include increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels.

Having just one of these conditions doesn't mean you have metabolic syndrome. But it does mean you have a greater risk of serious disease. And if you develop more of these conditions, your risk of complications, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, rises even higher.

Metabolic syndrome is increasingly common, and greater than one-third of U.S. adults have it. Some statistics indicate that the number of people who are truly metabolically healthy is only in the 11% - 15% range, meaning that about 85% of the US population is not optimally healthy. If you have metabolic syndrome or any of its components, aggressive lifestyle changes can delay or even prevent the development of serious health problems.

Lifestyle factors such as regular exercise including cardio, HIT, and strength training can help your body increase it's metabolic rate and utilize sugar more readily. Pursuing more of a Mediterranean diet and limiting sugar, processed carbs and foods, and incorporating time delayed eating can all help decrease inflammation in your body, and help your cells at a microscopic level be more metabolically flexible and efficient at burning different type of energy such as sugar, fats, and protein.

At Ultra Wellness Medical, we offer medical weight loss options to our primary care patients and to non-members on a consultative basis and through weight loss plans to help jump start what we hope will become life-long health changes. We also off the Emerald Laser which has been FDA approved for fat loss and body circumference reduction. This is not a "cheat" or a "easy way out" of the hard work needed for meaningful weight loss. Rather, this is a great tool which can assist in shrinking the size of fat cells without pain, scarring, or injury to the cells, and can be beneficial at helping to shrink pockets of fat that are difficult to loose with just diet alone.
